The awesome folks over at Speed Paint Lounge (coming soon) set up a camera next to me a couple of days ago in the hopes that they might catch me doing something creative and they got lucky. ;o) Woot!

I love painting boots but sometimes it just takes forever to work my way through the details. But every time I do it’s always worth it.

Mary Jane modeled for this piece. ;o) Can you imagine me setting up the shot to be tempting but not really reveal anything? Of course… my paintings are always up to my discretion as far as what I’m going to show but for those that are envious about my shoots you gotta wonder, huh? Nah… nothin’ to get excited about here. Women’s ‘goods’ are sexy but they don’t belong in a painting. To me, seduction and mystery is far more enticing than showing all and I’m sure many of you would agree. Enjoy!

It seems that my pieces are moving pretty steadily and if this keeps up they’re sure to go through a hike in price. But I guess this is a good problem to have. ;o)

Good Vibrations features Carlotta Champagne who’s one of my favorite models of all time. She has an unbelievable knack for striking poses and playing the described part. And even if she doesn’t have direction she always manages to hit everything right on and understands the need to create art every time she works. Lately I’ve been producing a lot of work but, admittedly, it’s been a bit of a challenge due to the surfaces I’ve been working on. About 5 years ago the mill that was producing the Crescent Hi-Line series of illustration boards shut down and the surface I grew to absolutely love was discontinued. -sigh- This left Crescent with the daunting challenge of trying to reproduce the board that many artists used. Well… they tried and failed miserably. Today, if you order Crescent Hi-Line Boards from your favorite are supply warehouse you will get a board that is called “Hi-Line” but I can assure you that it’s nothing like the original board.

About 2 years ago I talked to my good friend Lorenzo Sperlonga about the situation and he recommended a German board called Schoellershammer and, although it was Crescent Hi-Line it filled in rather nicely with a few adjustments – but still – I miss my old surface and I would happily pay anyone that might still have a stash in a closet somewhere of the old Crescent Hi-Line 9208 Illustration Board. There has been absolutely no substitute.

So, as of now, I still use the Schoellershammer boards and varying Crescent illustration boards. I’ve called Crescent to see what I can do to provide input to them on the adjusting of the quality of their so-called “Hi-Line” surfaces and they’ve agreed to provide me with what they need to to test new surfaces so they can make adjustments. We’ll see how this goes.

Which brings us to “Shimmer”…
This piece went through some trials and tribulations on the capacity of water I used to drench the surface but all-in-all, with many adjustments, I’m satisfied. Bottom line… an artist will paint where he/she needs to to make it work. A painting is a concept put together by a series of mistakes that a great artist knows how to fix. I’ll figure it all out. I met Mary Jane at the 2010 NAMM Show. I was sharing a booth for my drumstick company with Coffin Case and anyone that knows the company Coffin Case knows that there are going to be plenty of scantily clad cuties in the booth – always. It didn’t take me long to hit her up on taking a spot on some up and coming Pinup Sticks and along the way be featured in some of my gallery work. She was ecstatic to do it and so began the relationship of creating great art together.

It’s no secret that I love taking pics of Emily. She’s great to work with but she also knows no bounds which gives me a complete pallet to work with when it’s photo shoot day.

I love working with models who have achieved incredible amounts of success in their field but I absolutely won’t work with them if they have a stipulation on taking nude shots. The reason for this is simple – it’s nothing more or less than giving me a full pallet to work with even though the medium at hand is photography. If a model starts the shoot by saying that she won’t remove certain clothing it’s like she’s telling me to create an awesome painting of her without the colors red or blue. It’s simply not a way in which I would choose to work. I love having all of my colors at my disposal and when it comes to Emily Addison she is always will to give her all and make sure that I have all my colors and much more.

I think the key is trust. Emily has modeled for many spectacular photographers and to her modeling nude isn’t a big deal but to some models it is. This is where trust needs to be established through communication with the model. If a model I shoot does not want me to publish nude shots of them I’m always willing to oblige but they still have to be willing to model nude in order to create beautiful work.

Crimson Tied feature none other than the incredible Emily Addison looking rather dominant but still very soft and mysterious. You wonder where she’s going and who she’s tempting.
